Frequently Asked Questions

A trip to Rapids Camp Lodge starts with a few good questions. What should you pack? How do you get here? And how much time is reasonable to spend thinking about fishing before your trip? We can help with the first two. The third is between you and your employer. We get it, you’ve got questions; we’ve got answers, most of them at least.

Below, you’ll find answers to common questions to help you plan your stay and arrive ready for the adventure ahead.

Q- What is the dining program like?

A- Our lodge has a weekly set dining schedule consisting of local proteins and freshly prepared desserts. Our chefs can cater to many allergies and diet restrictions. Just be sure to notify our team at info@deneki.com before your arrival.

Q- What gear should I bring?

A- You’re welcome to bring your own gear, including rods, flies, and personal waders if you have them. Otherwise, our lodge is a Sage Experience Outfitter, which means we carry all the top Sage fly fishing gear. We also have an extensive wader room, and all guides are equipped with extra gear and rods that will be provided for you.

Q- How should I dress for the weather?

A- Dress for the unexpected! Alaskan weather can change at the drop of a hat. Rain gear and weather-resistant layers are a must. Check out our blog post for some recommendations and a printable packing list here and here.

Q- What kind of fish will I be catching?

A- During the course of our season, our guests will catch all 5 Pacific salmon found in Alaska. King salmon (Chinook), Silver salmon (Coho), Chum salmon (Dog), Red salmon (Sockeye), and Pink salmon (Humpy). You will also catch a great number of Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Char, and Grayling. These runs vary depending on the time in the season that you plan your stay.

Q- Are you strictly a fly fishing lodge?

A- While most of our guests fish with fly rods, we are very happy to host guests who want to use spinning gear and/or conventional tackle.

Q- What if I’m not an experienced angler?

A- We welcome all levels of anglers and provide experiences outside of fishing as well. We offer world-class bear viewing at Brooks Falls, flyout adventures, hikes, and more.

Q- What if I don’t have all of the gear?

A- Waders, wader boots, fly rods, flies, and anything else you can think of will be provided for you at the lodge.

Q- When’s the best time of year to come?

A- Our season runs June through October. Your timing depends on what you’re wanting to fish for. Early June through early August is great for Salmon runs including Sockeye, Pinks, Silvers, Chum and Kings. Late August through October is prime time for world-class Rainbow Trout. Dolly Varden, Char, and Grayling are swimming throughout the season. The later in the season you come, the bigger the fish can be!

Q- How do I get to the lodge?

A- You’ll be flying to Anchorage, AK on any major carrier on the day of, or at least one day prior to, your trip.

  • You’ll fly from Anchorage to King Salmon via our private aircraft (Pilatus PC-12).
  • Our staff will meet the Pilatus and transfer guests to the lodge in our shuttle vehicles. The drive is roughly 15 minutes.
  • Note: Guests are able to arrive in Anchorage on the first day of their trip and then fly to King Salmon, Alaska, that day.  We ask that your flight arrive in Anchorage by 12:00 PM.  If you cannot arrive by 12:00 PM, you may elect to overnight prior to this day (independently arranged, not included).

If you still have questions, get in touch; we’re happy to talk through the details. Contact us at info@deneki.com. We’ll be glad to answer your questions. We just can’t promise they will be right.
